As the thematic pavilion for Asia’s largest alternative education festival, we set out to create an interactive exhibition that would leave visitors with a genuine ache about life itself. While the festival’s overarching theme celebrated free expression through the symbols of “Raucous Noise, Coral, and Mixed Noodles,” our pavilion deliberately took the opposite approach: “Silence, Fossils, and Traditional Cuisine,” representing institutional discipline, rote education, and the model career path. We invited visitors into this space for one reason only: to escape the cage.

“The world is so vast, yet after years of living under hypnotic instructions, we have made our own lives so small.” These words greeted visitors at the pavilion’s final exit. They were said to have left a profound impression on many visitors—including members of Taiwan’s legislature and the Minister of Education.
