這不是一本從官方本位出發、對民眾宣傳政績的制式出版品，而是一本由庶民視角開展、重建市民自信認同、樹立港都時代精神的「寫真」專書。總編輯帶領四位不同風格攝影師，費時一年多進行田調拍攝——從上山出海、街頭巷尾、日常與節慶、乃至於特殊天氣，原始照片總數超過萬張。相較於一般書籍製作總怕素材不夠，本書編輯的難題反而是佳作太多難以取捨。
本書は、行政の実績を伝えるための画一的な広報出版物ではなく、市井の人々の視点から港町の物語を描き、市民の誇りとアイデンティティ、そして時代の精神を写し出す写真集です。編集長のもと、作風の異なる4人の写真家が1年以上にわたりフィールドワークと撮影を重ね、山や海、街角や路地、日々の暮らしや祭り、さらには特別な気象条件まで、1万点を超える写真を記録しました。多くの書籍制作では素材不足が課題となりますが、本書では優れた作品があまりにも多く、その選定こそが最大の挑戦となりました。
Rather than a conventional government publication highlighting official achievements, this photobook tells the story of the harbor city from the perspective of its people—rebuilding civic pride and capturing the spirit of its time. Led by the chief editor, four photographers with distinct visual styles spent more than a year conducting field research and documenting the city, from mountains and coastlines to streets and alleyways, everyday life and festivals, even rare weather conditions, producing more than 10,000 photographs. While most book projects struggle with too little material, the challenge here was choosing from an abundance of outstanding images.

編集部は、写真作品を「人物」「紀事」「地景」「物件」「生態」の5つのテーマに沿って構成し、現代の港町・基隆の変容を読み解くための重要な切り口としています。また、編集長自らが考証・執筆した簡潔なキャプションは、読者が一枚一枚の写真を自由に味わい、解釈する余地を残しながら、その背景を理解するための手がかりを提供しています。
The photographs are organized into five themes—People, Events, Landscapes, Objects, and Ecology—offering key perspectives for understanding the contemporary transformation of the harbor city of Keelung. Concise captions, carefully researched and written by the chief editor, provide essential context while leaving ample room for readers to form their own interpretations of each photograph.
